By bike along the rails to the canal
The bicycle-powered railway handcart has served tourists along the former Baťa railway since 2005. The three-kilometre route connects the Moravian Wine Trail with the Podluží trail and offers an introduction to the transport route that in the 1930s brought coal from Ratíškovice to the port in Rohatec, from where it travelled along the Baťa canal to Zlín. In 2006, the bicycle handcart will be complemented by a railcar museum with a permanent exhibition on the “Transport System of Tomáš Baťa and His Activities in the Region”. (tel. 724 247 671)

The largest winemaking town in Slovácko is graced by the church of St. Catherine (1769) with its rococo furnishing. The baroque chapel of St. Roch is a sombre reminder of the past – it is located on the plague cemetery. The elementary school building from the 1950s was designed by Bohuslav Fuchs. The wine cellars in the “Pod búdama” area are characterised by painted archways by Jan Lacek. The town’s speciality is a blend of Blaufränkisch and Blue Portugal known as Slovácký granát.

The originally Renaissance chateau with corner towers and an arcaded gallery in its courtyard was rebuilt in the baroque style in 1721-1725. The work of Brno artists who participated in the renovation gave the chateau its unique Moravian baroque character. Also architecturally noteworthy is the Church of All Saints from the late 17th century with its artistically valuable interior. The baroque reliefs on the church’s exterior wall were created by master artists working on the decoration of the chateau. Milotice’s collection of wine cellars known as “Šidleny” is one of the most renowned in the Slovácko region.
